In humans, the HBB gene influences how hemoglobin is made. If someone inherits two of the “s” version of the gene, they develop sickle cell anemia. If someone inherits two of the “S” version, they have a higher susceptibility to malaria.
If a new planet had to be colonized, should we send only humans with two of the “S” version or only with two of the “s” version, or some of each? Why?
